The 11th generation Toyota Corolla hatchback goes on sale next week and, as we know, the all-new Corolla needs to be good for Toyota to fight-off the challenge of another motor show debutant – the all-new Nissan Pulsar. But then Corolla is the world’s best-selling car.

As you can see, styling has taken a massive leap inside and out and Toyota says we can look forward to better on-road dynamics.

Corolla has become the star member of Toyota Europe’s lineup and not surprisingly European tastes influenced the design and specifications of the all-new model. That’s good news for local buyers given Australians’ passion for European cars.

At the front all-new Toyota Corolla is punctuated by the current Toyota ‘face’ including the trapezoidal lower grille as seen in Yaris and Prius. There’s also a prominently sloping bonnet and streamlined look which flows to the silhouette and then to the rear which includes a roof spoiler which is part of the considerable overall aerodynamics package.

Toyota says the all-new Corolla is slightly larger than its predecessor and this translates into extra interior space. Inside there’s a marked step-up in material quality and even details like the fonts used in the instrumentation.

Under the bonnet is a revised version of Toyota’s proven 1.8-litre petrol engine which is three per-cent more powerful than the outgoing model. Peak torque arrives earlier in the rev range which provides a more engaging driving dynamic.

Further pieces for the all-new Toyota Corolla driving dynamics jigsaw are reduced weight, great body rigidity, lower-set seats and a lower centre of gravity.

And Toyota says the all-new Corolla will score the maximum five-star safety rating.

Check back-in with Car Showroom after tomorrow to read the full Corolla story and our driving impressions.
