Mitsubishi has fired the first shot in the 2013 compact car battle with news the all-new Mirage lineup will start at $12,990.
On-sale in January, the all-new Mirage will be available in three model grades – ES, Sport and LS.
Power comes from Mitsubishi’s all-new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Smart MIVEC petrol engine driving through wither a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic. Maximum power is 57kW at 6000rpm, peak torque is 100Nm at 4000rpm and fuel consumption is rated as low as 4.6l/100kms.
The all-new Mitsubishi Mirage is 3700mm long, 1665mm wide and 1500mm high. City resident buyers or those who frequent tight car parks will be pleased to learn Mitsubishi is claiming best-in-class maneuverability with its newcomer delivering a tiny turning of circle of jsy 8.8-metres (ES model).
Looks are smart and contemporary, the Mitsubishi Mirage headlined by a sophisticated and aerodynamic front end with sophisticated headlights, a sculptured bonnet and minimal openings. That aero work has paid-off with a drag co-efficient (important for optimized fuel consumption) of cD 0.30.
A compact engine bay and that smart curved roof returns dividends inside with Mitsubishi claiming interior space for five adults.
Mitsubishi Mirage LS models add 15-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, a roof spoiler and dark-coloured trim highlights while the Sport model goes further with 14-inch alloy wheels and an up-scale audio system.
Inside is a choice of two trim materials, black and ivory two-tone highlights and an overall clean and uncluttered look which enhances spaciousness.
