Mazda says the looks of the all-new Mazda6 had their gestation with the stylish Takeri concept car from last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. There is certainly a lot of sculpturing and character lines (three strong lines dominate the side view), in the same way as the Mazda CX-5 SUV.

Aerodynamics have improved (drag cD 0.26)

The front features the current Mazda ‘signature wing’ with a recessed look and again lots of creases for the bonnet, and Mazda’s first LED ring lights while the rear shows prominent wheel arches and accentuates the wedge-shaped body.

Measuring 2,830mm in the wheelbase, the all-new Mazda6 has a shorter front overhand (the front wheels shifted 100mm further forward of the A-pillar) and also a shorter rear overhang.

Inside is a ‘three-meter’ instrument binnacle and the instruments themselves have stylish white graphics. The dashboard is more rounded than the current Mazda6 and we can see plush new materials throughout.

In Moscow the Mazda6 on display featured a 3.5-inch colour screen for the vehicle management systems and a 5-inch colour screen for the satellite navigation.

The all-new Mazda6 is more spacious than the current model with 20mm more front shoulder room and extra knee and legroom in the rear.

Underneath, Mazda says the all-new Mazda6 boasts 30 per-cent more torsional rigidity than the current model and runs the full suite of SKYACTIV body and chassis technology.

The press information from Moscow says Mazda6 will be offered with a choice of two SKYACTIV-G petrol engines. The 2.0-litre version delivers 110kW/210Nm and the new 2.5-litre derivative is good for 141kW/256Nm.

Lots of technology too with the all-new Mazda6 running fuel-saving i-stop auto start/stop and i-eloop regenerative braking.
