BMW Australia have launched the new 3 Series Touring (wagon) this week, but the team at Carshowroom missed out on driving it. Priced from $58,900, BMW says the latest generation 3 Series Touring offers more people space and a best-in-class cargo space of 1,500-litres (40/20/40 split-fold rear seat folded flat).
Now on sale are the 318d and 320i Touring and both are available in four grades – ‘Sport Line’, ‘Modern Line’, ‘Luxury Line’ and ‘M Sport’. All drive through BMW’s superb eight-speed automatic transmission and come standard with fuel-saving auto start-stop.
The more powerful 328i Touring will join the lineup shortly.
BMW 318d employs the BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel with 105kW/320Nm, while the petrol-engined 320i delivers 135kW/270Nm.
BMW says nearly all interior dimensions of the new 3 Series Touring eclipse the previous model. Even with all seats in-place the cargo capacity is 495-litres and the new-design 40/20/40 split-fold rear seats affords better versatility.
Loading is easier too with a large opening two-part electric tailgate.
While we haven’t see the BMW 3 Series in the metal, or driven it, you’d reckon with the same specifications and chassis architecture as the sedan, all models would be ‘Top Shelf’.
The full range is:
318d $58,900
320i $62,600
328i $69,900
