Nissan’s barnstorming GTR supercar ups the ante for 2012 with more power, more technology…and even an improved Bose audio system.

Priced at $170800, the 2012 Nissan GTR goes on-sale locally next March.

Biggest news is under the bonnet where the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 has been re-worked for extra performance and enhanced fuel consumption. Maximum power is now 404kW at 6400rpm (up from 190kW) and peak torque has grown from 612Nm to 632Nm from 3200rpm to 5800rpm. Fuel consumption (combined cycle) has dropped to 11.8l/100kms.

Nissan has also re-worked the GTR’s six-speed sequential transmission with a firmer shift fork arm and flywheel housing bearing and also swapped to a competition-type oil – all for better feel and quieter shifts.

Underneath the suspension has been set asymetrically to compensate for the drivers’ weight and the propeller shaft being located on the right hand side. There is a harder spring rate on the left-hand side and the rear suspension arm slants upwards on left side and downwards on the right. Just like a race car, this means the GTR has an imbalanced wheel load when parked.

Body stiffness has been boosted and inside, the latest Nissan GTR runs blue lighting inside the tachometer ring to match the shift position indicator light and the Bose audio system scores new woofers.
