While full details have not made their way to Australia just yet, MINI planned to announce its fastest model so far – the limited edition John Cooper Works GP – at the Le Castellet race circuit in France.
Only 2000 examples of the MINI John Cooper Works GP are being produced for worldwide markets.
MINI says we should prepare for a motorsport-derived rocket which has already lapped Germany’s Nurburgring race circuit in 8 mins 23 seconds – that’s a smooth 19 seconds faster the MINI’s previous fastest car.
Expect full technical details soon, but we do know the previous ‘GP Kit’ delivered 100kW of power for the twin-scroll turbocharged 1.6-litre engine.
Immediately obvious from these pics are the massive aerodynamic enhancements – the large roof spoiler, rear diffuse, front spoiler and side skirts.
Inside, the MINI John Cooper Works GP ditches the rear seat to save weight. But fear not, the two-seater is a beautifully-trimmed luxo/racer – as you’d expect from BMW-owned MINI.
Chassis development is extensive and honed in testing at the Nurburgring. Brakes are uprated and the MINI John Cooper Works GP rides on adjustable race-tuned suspension.
Full details on the MINI John Cooper Works GP will be revelaed soon but as yet no word on local plans.
