A quieter, more refined driving experience has been a key objective for Honda engineers developing the all-new 2012 Civic range.
Much development testing has been carried out in a special zero-echo sound chamber at Honda UK’s headquarters in Swindon as well as on a variety of European roads.
As well, aerodynamic work for high-speed stability and reduced fuel consumption has been undertaken by several Honda engineers who came straight to the 2012 Honda Civic program from the company’s F1 Grand Prix operation.
“We did not improve the noise and refinement of the new Civic through just one technique,” revealed Kazuo Sunaoshi, Honda’s chassis expert. “It was the accumulation of lots of little details. My big challenge was the match the noise and vibration levels of our European competitors. I am proud to say we have achieved our goals.”
