BMW Australia will launch the outstanding all-new 3 Series range next month, boosted by two new entry-level models – the 318d ($56,400) and 320i ($57,600).

That means BMW’s six-generation compact sedan boasts an all-turbocharged engine lineup.

The entry-level BMW 318d delivers 105kW/320Nm, fuel consumption is rated at 4.5l/100kms and zero to 100km/h ticks by in 9.3 seconds.

Kicking off the petrol-engined 3 Series models is the 3201 which drives its 135kW/270Nm through an eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters for manual changes. BMW is claiming class leadership for the 320i on two fronts: fuel economy (6.2l/100kms) and acceleration (zero to 100km/h in 7.6 seconds).

Specifications for the BMW 320i are also impressive: iDrive controller with full colour display, cruise control with brake function, electric front seats, front and rear park distance control, automatic lights and wipers and Bluetooth connectivity just for starters.

Of course the stand-out feature of the all-new BMW 3 Series is the looks – a very sharp styling job, much more purposeful than the current generation, is a big part of the newcomers’ allure.

“We have built substantially more value into the standard specification of this new car,” revealed BMW Australia managing director, Phil Horton. “It’s been hailed overseas as the best in class both in terms of value and performance and we expect Australian customers to agree.”

The full lineup is:

318d $56,400
320i $57,600
320d $60,900
328i $66,900
335i $91,900
