Suzuki’s hot-selling Swift compact hatchback scores a new, more fuel-efficient engine and an improved drivetrain from February next year.
Suzuki Swift’s all-new engine is a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder featuring an alloy cylinder head with pentroof, center plug combustion chamber and standard electronic throttle control.
Maximum power is 70kW and peak torque is 130Nm, but fuel economy is down by an impressive 13 per cent over the current generation Swift to 5.5l/100kms. Suzuki says the new Swift will offer the most fuel-efficient naturally-aspirated engine in the compact segment.
Drive will be via either upgraded five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The auto features hill-hold assist.
Accompanying the new engine, Suzuki Swift gains a new chassis with a wider track and lower center of gravity for improved ride and handling. Suspension will be a revised MacPherson strut front/torsion beam rear layout and the electric power steering system has been refined for sharper response.
Safety is enhanced too with all models scoring seven airbags including side curtain airbags and a drivers’ knee airbag.
