Subaru has added two new diesel models to its Forester compact SUV range.
Power comes from the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Boxer diesel engine, with common rail high-pressure direct injection, which has proved a popular addition to the Subaru Outback range. With 108kW and 350Nm from as low as 1600 rpm, the turbo-diesel Forester delivers handy low-range performance – a real attribute in off-road conditions.
Fuel consumption is 5.7l/100kms and exhaust emissions are 151g/km.
The diesel Forester also delivers enhanced towing capacity over its petrol brothers – up to 1600kgs.
Entry to the diesel Forester lineup is $35,990 for the 2.0D while the extra features in the 2.0D Premium model lifts its sticker to $39,990. Among the additional kit, the Premium model gains leather trim, 17-inch alloy wheels, HID headlights, a six-stack in-dash audio system with extra speakers and electric adjustment for the drivers’ seat.
The Forester is an extremely competent compact SUV – the best-seller in its segment – and the diesel option is a smart move.
“The Outback (diesel) has exceeded our expectations and early demand for the Forester (diesel) suggests it will follow suit,” revealed Subaru Australia’s Managing Director, Nick Senior. “Outstanding economy, the potential for a 1,000 kilometre range, great engine flexibility and Forster’s traditionally strong retained value are the hallmarks of this vehicle.”
