In its 50th anniversary year of making cars in Australia another milestone for Toyota – the two-millionth car for the local market.
In fact Australia was Toyota’s first foreign assembly operation when production of the Tiara started in 1963.
Last year Toyota produced more than 101,000 cars at its plant in Altona, Victoria with some 70 per-cent exported to markets including the Middle East.
Counting vehicles imported from plants mostly in Japan and Thailand, more than 5.7 million Toyotas have been sold in Australia.
