Renault’s excellent Megane – a Car Showroom favourite European hatchback – has been boosted by the launch of a new entry-level model priced at $19,990 ‘driveaway’.

But you’ll have to be fast because that price is locked-in only until 15 November – after that date the recommended retail price is $20,990.

And despite that ‘entry-level’ moniker, under the bonnet this newcomer is far from ‘entry’. How does a 97kW/205Nm turbocharged 1.2 sound? Sounds good to us, especially when you consider zero to 100km/h in just 10.9 seconds and combined-cycle fuel consumption of only 5.6l/100kms (aided by standard auto start/stop).

The new entry-level 1.2-litre Renault Megane drives via a six-speed manual transmission and will sell alongside other Megane variants powered by the 2.0-litre powerplant driving through a CVT automatic.

“With this attractive price positioning and low running costs, coupled with our customer-friendly 5-years/unlimited km factory warranty, capped price servicing, Renault Financial Services and new Renault Insurance, we have the complete package with which to tackle the market,” revealed Renault Australia boss Justin Hocevar.
