Kia will boost its annual global production capacity to 3.37 million cars er year when its new plant in Monterray, Mexico comes on-stream.
The agreement has just been officially signed and production is due to start next month with the aim of production commencing in late 2016.
By then Kia will be producing around 50 per-cent of its cars in Korea and 50 per-cent in overseas plants – the Mexican operation chipping-in 300,000 cars annually.
The Mexican plant is slated to manufacture a range of un-named new compact models although at this stage there is now word if that will include right-hand-drive models for markets such as ours.
Currently Kia does not sell cars in Mexico.
