While the Ford Focus ST is a goer for production, the American giant teased hot hatch fans further in Frankfurt by unveiling an ST version of the Fiesta compact – as a concept.
Another chapter in Ford’s new global performance strategy, the Fiesta ST is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine – like the Focus St’s 2.0-litre with twin independent variable camshaft timing. Maximum power is 132kW and peak torque is 240Nm –delivering zero to 100km/h in under 7 seconds.
Styling enhancements mirror the Ford Focus ST – the Fiesta version running a large front grille and large rear diffuser with twin exhausts. There’s also a sports body kit styled like Ford’s Fiesta World Rally Championship cars and flared wheel arches to accommodate the 17-inch alloy wheels.
Underneath the Ford Fiesta ST features stiffer sports tuned suspension.
The Ford Fiesta ST shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show was painted in Molten Orange, borrowed from Ford North America’s superb SVT F-150 Raptor pickup.
Although shown as a concept, there’s little doubt the Ford Fiesta ST is headed into production and Car Showroom would like to be at the head of the line to buy this pocket rocket.
