Honda Australia has just released the updated FK Civic hatch for the 2020 model year. These updates bring the Thai-made hatch into line with the revised sedan version launched last year.

The Japanese automaker says the Civic hatch will continue to offer small car buyers a complete package, delivering smart and advanced safety technology, class leading space, comfort and style. This is evident in statement made by Honda Australia.

“The inclusion of Honda Sensing as standard equipment on two additional Civic hatch variants, represents another step in our plan to introduce the full suite of intelligent driver-assist and active safety technologies right across the Honda vehicle range over the next few years,” Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins said.

“Since we announced that plan we’ve added Honda Sensing onto the CR-V VTi-S AWD model, the all-new Accord has arrived fully equipped with Honda Sensing and now all Civic sedan and hatch models powered by the 1.5-litre VTEC turbo engine have the system as well, reflecting our ongoing commitment to support the safe and comfortable driving of our customers.

Honda Sensing integration means variants from the mid-spec Civic VTi-L and RS onwards will receive features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning and assist, active high beam lights and adaptive cruise control.

However, the two entry-level variants, namely: VTi and VTi-S – will not be receiving the full suite of driver assist technologies. Additionally, these two variants will also feature a 1.8-litre petrol mill instead of the 1.5-litre VTEC turbo found in the VTi-L variant onwards.

Honda also says that each version will feature a unique wheel design. The RS hatch leads the way with a new 18-inch alloy wheel design that’s fitted with wider 235/40 ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubbers. The VTi-LX gets the former RS wheels but finished in dark grey.

The front and rear bumpers on the Civic hatch have been redesigned, incorporating body coloured accents into the new lower panel sections along with a new front grille design. The RS hatch gains a new rear diffuser design.

Inside, there are updates to the instrument panel and seat trims in addition to the improvements made to the controls for the audio and ventilation systems. The redesign includes the addition of hard keys for the volume and other frequently used functions such as home, audio, telephone, back menus and fan speed.

The refreshed Civic hatch is currently on sale and will be available with new colours such as : Ignite Red which is available range-wide, Pheonix Orange which is an RS exclusive and Taffeta White which is available range-wide except on the RS.
