Audi R8 Star of Lucis: One-Off Final Fantasy Special

One for the fans. Literally one, and specifically for Final Fantasy fans. Audi, collaborating with Final Fantasy game house Square Enix, have created a one-off special edition to celebrate the upcoming launch of the latest edition to the game’s franchise, Final Fantasy XV

Not content with just a visual upgrade, Audi and Square Enix saw it fit to detail a backstory for the car, tying it into the game’s plotline, although it must be said that the car will not be a feature of the game at all. According to the firms, the R8 Star of Lucis “was crafted for the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Lucis,” and bears the most noble colour of the kingdom: Black.

One of the most obvious additions to the R8 are the ornate patterns that adorn the side blades, air intakes, wing mirrors, and rear wing of the supercar, bearing a pattern from “the Tenebrae oracle clan that confers peace, blessings, and well being.” We think it just looks Arabesque. The wheels on the special edition feature a rose petal pattern, incorporating elements of the kingdom’s “finely sculpted swords,” to create one of the most sensational designs we’ve ever seen.

The interior sees fewer revisions, limited to orange stitching on the upholstery, but features kit like a Bang & Olufsen audio system, a Virtual Cockpit display, and built-in internet connectivity. The R8 Star of Lucis is powered by a 5.2-litre V10 from the R8 Plus, producing 449kW and 560Nm. With a Quattro all-wheel drive system working together with a 7-speed automatic transmission, this handsome special edition will hit 100km/h from rest in just 3.2 seconds, hurtling on to 330km/h.

The R8 Star of Lucis has been tagged at 50,000,015 yen, or $620,600 to you and I. Its sale will go through a lottery system rather than an outright bidding, and interested buyers can submit their purchase request on the 21st of November.
