The Holden Adventra finally gets a successor.

2018 Holden Commodore Tourer, A Versatile SUV Alternative

With the 2018 Holden Commodore pipped to arrive on our shores in a saloon and estate body style, we can’t say we’re not surprised by the emergence of a third variant. Dubbed the ‘Commodore Tourer,’ this new Holden follows in the mould of other estate crossovers.

With cars like the Volvo V90 Cross Country and Subaru Outback enjoying great reception both at home and abroad, it’s sensible for Holden to offer the Commodore with a more commanding (sorry) stance. Holden was keen to detail the beefy bumper inserts, tough-looking wheel arch extensions, and equally-rough skirts. There’s even a skid plate out back, hiding between the exhaust tips to give the Tourer some proper off-road looks. The Tourer gains 20mm in height too, just enough to give it a great visibility behind the wheel.

Working out to a 20mm increase in length, the Tourer measures up at 5006mm long, with the wheelbase at 2829 in length. The Commodore Sportswagon on which it’s based boasts 520L of cargo capacity behind the rear seats, and the Tourer shouldn’t be any different. Holden didn’t detail engine options, though it’s expected that the Tourer will only pack four-cylinder options, or possibly even be offered exclusively as a diesel. A nine-speed automatic will send power to all four corners.

A torque vectoring system will be offered, alongside a driver mode selector to ensure that your Commodore Tourer handles whatever situation it encounters with deftness. This will build on the already-impressive standard kit available across the Commodore range, which includes massage functionality for the front pews, all-round heated seats, single-touch rear seats, active noise cancellation, and an electric tailgate (for estate cars).

Safety should we well catered for, with headline features like autonomous emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, lane-departure and lane-keep assistance, forward-collision alert, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
